Brakes and calipers are essential components of a vehicle's braking system

Brakes are used to slow down or stop a vehicle.

The main types include disc brakes and drum brakes.

Use brake pads to squeeze a rotor, generating friction brakes and calipers to slow down the wheel.

Use brake shoes to press outward against a drum, creating friction to slow down the wheel.

Calipers are a part of disc brake systems. They house the brake pads and use hydraulic pressure to squeeze them against the rotor.

There are two main types of calipers:

Have pistons on both sides of the rotor. They provide better braking performance but are more complex and expensive.

Have pistons on one side and move back and forth. They are simpler and more common in regular vehicles.

Maintenance and Issues

Need to be replaced periodically as they wear down.

Can warp or wear out over time, requiring resurfacing or replacement.

Can seize or leak, which would need repair or replacement.

Should be checked and replaced as needed to maintain proper hydraulic pressure.

Signs of Issues

Indicates worn brake pads.

Could be due to warped rotors.

Might be a sign of a stuck caliper.

Usually indicates air in the brake lines or low brake fluid.

Regular maintenance and prompt attention to any issues can ensure the braking system remains effective and safe. If you have specific questions or need advice on repairs, feel free to ask!
